Counseling & Mental Health

Counseling & Mental Health Resources

At Evening Star Elementary, we believe in supporting the whole child — academically, socially, and emotionally. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we are committed to ensuring every student has access to the support they need to grow, thrive, and succeed to new heights. Our services are guided by the Bentonville Schools Comprehensive Counseling Plan and are adjusted annually based on our building needs assessment.

Our School Counseling Program: Our school counselors provide comprehensive support through a proactive, tiered approach designed to meet the needs of all students. Students may move between tiers at various times depending on their needs. This tiered model is flexible and responsive. Our school counseling program follows a three-tier model.

Tier 1 – Schoolwide Support (Prevention & Core Instruction): Tier 1 includes implementation of our district's guidance curriculum and classroom lessons that build foundational social and emotional skills. The greatest amount of our counselors’ time is spent in direct Tier 1 services, as this is the most efficient and effective way to serve the largest number of students.

Classroom Personal Success Skills Lessons: Our counselors provide monthly classroom guidance lessons focused on life skills such as:

  • Emotional Regulation/Coping Skills

  • Bullying Prevention and Cyberbullying Awareness

  • Personal Safety/EmpowerMe

  • Conflict Resolution

  • Empathy and Kindness

These lessons are presented in the classroom setting and are designed to proactively build strong social and emotional foundations.

Tier 2 – Small Group Interventions: Tier 2 serves students identified as having greater needs through interventions with increased focus. These supports may include small group counseling and structured skill-building opportunities.

Small Group Support: In addition to classroom instruction, our counselors:

  • Allocate additional time to reteach the schoolwide guidance lessons.

  • Assist students in applying and putting into practice these personal success skills.

Tier 3 – Individualized Support: Tier 3 provides individualized interventions tailored specifically to each student’s needs.

School-based Therapy: Bentonville Schools partners with local mental health agencies. Evening Star's district-assigned school-based therapy partnership is with:

Through a parent-requested referral, a licensed therapist from Eason Counseling Associates can provide individualized school-based therapy sessions on campus during the school day. This partnership allows students to receive school-based therapy support in a familiar, convenient environment without missing significant instructional time.
